Our approach to user consultancy
has been inspired by our training
packages and because we have both experienced
mental distress. We aim to create sessions where users
participate in ways that are comfortable and
meaningful to them
Understanding Psychosis
This Workshop explores the experience of psychosis through practical exercises, and enables participants to think about ways to support service users in identifying coping strategies, and finding meaning in their experience and exploring recovery journeys
Recovery
A more detailed look at the concept of recovery including practical exercises and theoretical perspectives. This workshop is aimed at mental health professionals and works on a number of levels including supporting individuals and groups of service users in identifying and supporting recovery journeys; and also planning and designing services which support recovery.
Employment and Social Inclusion
Enabling workers to explore methods of working which encourage service users to engage in the mainstream of society. This workshop will also enable workers to explore vocational pathways and to look at how mental health service users can be supported in actively contributing to society.
User focussed workshops

Learning from Psychosis has devised a model for consulting service users which is highly inclusive and enables users with very different levels of confidence and functioning to contribute to planning and design of services and participate in decision making.

CREATIVE MEDIUMS:
We use the same creative mediums in user workshops as in our training packages. Art, film, music and creative writing are all used as tools to encourage discussion and development.
Wherever possible, we will decorate the venue beforehand so that the space feels different and more inspiring.
TAILORED SESSIONS:
We talk with the group prior to the delivery of the session to ensure that their aims and objectives are met.
Each session is specifically tailored to meet the requirements of the group.
STRUCTURES OF SESSIONS:
Once the sessions have been agreed, we send this information to the group so users are aware of the content of the
workshops prior to the date.
Users may not necessarily need to be present throughout the whole day, as often, each session will be self-contained. Hence, users may decide to 'drop in' to certain sessions that are more relevant to them. We ensure that there are sufficient breaks and will make sure this is adhered to during the sessions.
A SAFE SPACE:
Similar to worker's training sessions, we ensure a safe space is created from the onset by setting group agreements and addressing individual concerns.
USING OUR OWN EXPERIENCES:
When relevant, we will use our own stories and experiences as learning tools. At the same time, we encourage individuals in the group to share what they have learnt.
TAKE AWAY MATERIALS:
Users are given a take away pack to remember the day and to develop some of the issues addressed in the sessions.
We also advise participants to have a post workshop session about month later.
there is currently a technical problem with the 'back' / 'forward' tabs in this site browser.
We are hoping to remedy this shortly.
